Being the system as it is, each state is like an individual nation as far as excise laws are concerned. In spite of the best efforts both by wine importers, individual wineries and the wine lovers, some of the good wines, are restricted to few states only. Global trend for the preferential treatment to wines, will certainly percolates to India and may be with in short time, we have many many wines to cherish. This time, we could get some of the Chilian wines, thanks to Delhi Wine Club and we could organize a ‘Chilian Wine Dinner’ on 2nd July 2006, Sunday in Crystal Palace – A of Hotel Manohar.
Chilean wines have been coming to the fore in the international markets since about 1995 when they became aggressive exporters after their government and the wine producers took concrete measures to improve the wine quality. Previously the international community has been designating these wines as bulk wines. But there has been a steady input of technology and investments from abroad and the quality of daily drinking wines has been improving. Presently they are finding their place in ‘Wine Spectator’ as a result of such efforts. There is surely a lesson in it for Indian wine industry too. If we want to see our name in this List in not too distant future we have to accept that the quality has to be steadily improved to export our wines more with equally committed encouragement from authorities, to develop wine culture. Of course, the reverse is also true.
Mr. Rahul Rallan of East Coast Distributors, the prime crystalware business house was magnanimous to sponsor a set of Wine stemware from Arcoroc Frence. The lucky winners are Mr. S.
