Re: Red wine reduces the cholestrol

    Dear Anil
I went through some articles and some portions are relevant to your question -

It looks certain substances unique to wines, such as tannins and flavonoids, act as antioxidants and may be the key factors in the positive effects of red wine consumption.
certain substances in red wine apparently raise the levels of "good" cholestrol in the blood while decreasing the low-density lipoporteins (LDL, or "bad" cholestrol) and thereby help prevent heart attacks and strokes.
Another study shows that ployphenols such as catechin, quercetin, resveratrol and others found in red wine have several health promotion benefits.
The reason they are found in red wines but not white is that these substances are natural components of grape skins. Since red wines are fermented on the skins while white wines are not, it is the fermentation of the skins that seems critical to health promotion.

In fact, red wine increases the level of HDL- the good cholestrol, by 8-10%. This effect lasts for a few hours only. That is why it is recommended that the moderate quantity of wine should be taken REGULARLY. This has been one of the more startling finds at the Second International Wine and Heart Health Convention that I attended in Napa, USA in February this year. I have posted some more details on our website at www.delhiwineclub.com that may be of interest to you.

Re: Red wine reduces the cholestrol

There are SOO many different kinds of reds. I'll list the simplest kinds for you, lightest to most full-bodied.... Pinot Noir Shiraz Mediterranean Reds (typically table reds) Red Zinfandel Merlot Cabernet Keep in mind that there are far far far more than I have listed, but this will give you a general idea. As far as reducing your cholesterol, although it is true red wine contains an antioxidant that prevents the buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries, there are risks connected with excessive alcohol intake. Higher intakes of vegetables, whole grains, fish and olive oil may achieve the same heart healthy benefit without the risk. Besides, alcohol actually increases the risk of other potential killers including cancer. Dryness of a wine (tannines) deals only with taste. The longer the skins of the grape are left in the fermenter or the aging barrel, the drier the wine. Just find what tastes good to you.

     Hello,

our red wines have been tested about "Resveratrolo" for reducing of Cholesterol.

Here you find the newspaper article:

From the red wine "help against cholesterol
A phenolic compound in wine "healthy"

The red wine helps protect the heart and arteries from damage of cholesterol and prevents heart attacks
It may seem paradoxical, but there it is. Especially in light of findings made recently by a team of French cardiologists.

Scholars have in fact verified experimentally that moderate consumption of red wine produced in humans, in the blood, some very interesting effects, such as a reduced tendency to aggregation of platelets and an increase in HDL cholesterol levels.

This is due to the presence, found in red wines, a natural substance (a phenolic compound) called Resveratrol.

Studies from France - in this case it is the first test carried out in the country - have moved in Italy, precisely where the winery Botticino "Emilio Franzoni" - founded in 1910, has seven acres of vineyards and produces wine DOC, as well as table wine - has run Italian Wine Union (UIV) analysis on a series of red wine its production: the analysis - carried out under the direction of Dr. Francis Pavanello - were carried out on Botticino the Botticino DOC,  La Foja and La Foja d'Or Riserva and showed the presence of 2.6-2.7 milligrams per liter of Resveratrol.

According to studies performed on the Trans-Resveratrol plays an important protective action: in particular, has on the blood thinning action.

Re: Red wine reduces the cholestrol

Scientists at the University of California, Davis, have recognized an additional group of chemicals in red wine that is connected to the capability to lower cholesterol. Called saponins, these glucose-based plant compounds are being establish in an increasing number of foods. This is the first time they've been found in wine, says Andrew Waterhouse, Ph.D., Professor of Enology (wine chemistry) at the University of California, Davis.
