    The Basics of a Vineyard/Winery?

Hi, i I have some basic questions about setting up a vineyard/winery in India. I am extremely interested in establishing a winery. Which is the best place in India to set up a vineyard? Once this has been done, where can I find the proper experts on planting/harvesting and the agricultural part of it? Basically I need somewhat of a step by step tutorial on how to establish a vineyard+winery. Can you direct me to a source from where I can get this information? Are there places whereI can get classes on this sort of stuff? Are there books to read? Specialists on it that you can direct me to? Anything at all would help. Thanks!

    Hi Julian,

    Regarding course/classes in India - see http://indianwine.com/cs/forums/t/3682.aspx

Regarding setting up basics, join our string on http://indianwine.com/cs/forums/t/3807.aspx 'Ask Puneet - Wine Business'

Regarding the best places, this is a difficult question - India is a sub Tropical Country on the whole, and vines tend to like milder climates, although excellent wines are being made in sub tropical zones. Currently the most prodigous growth is occurring in the State of Mahrashtra, with pockets elese where.

Viticultural Experets tend to be broght in from abroad. Michelle Roland ad Dr Richard Smart are amongst the best and who have worked extensively in India - Watch out though - There fees don't come cheap.

Regarding Step by Step Tutorials - I suggest you work in an established winery for a year - and this will be the best way - Alternatively you can employ a 'flying' winemaker who charge several thousand dollars per week

Excellent Books - From Sunlight to Wine - Dr Richard Smart and Wine Science (Second Edition) - R Jackson

Marketing Specialist and Consultant - Mr Alok Chandra of Gryphon Brands would also be a step in the right direction. I have communicated with him once or twice and his knowledge of the Industry in India is extensive and thorough, and very reasonable fees

    Kind Regards

    Puneet
